A Set of Standards

The CAMFT Code of Ethics is a set of standards that guides the conduct and ethical behavior of Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs). The code of ethics helps to ensure that MFTs act in the best interests of their clients at all times.

The CAMFT Code of Ethics covers the following topics:

  • Responsibility to Clients/Patients
  • Confidentiality
  • Informed Consent and Disclosure
  • Dual/Multiple Relationships
  • Professional Competence and Integrity
  • Telehealth
  • Supervisor, Supervisee, Educator, and Student Responsibilities
  • Responsibility to Colleagues
  • Responsibility to the Profession
  • Responsibility to the Legal System
  • Responsibility to Research Participants
  • Financial Arrangements
  • Fees

The CAMFT Code of Ethics was most recently revised in 2019. Members of CAMFT should be familiar with the Code of Ethics and abide by the rules and standards therein. Violating the CAMFT Code of Ethics may result in an investigation and other disciplinary action.
